Counseling

Seattle Counseling Services Dr Benjamin DobbeckMy philosophy is that humans are biological and spiritual beings that think, feel, act, sense, imagine, and interact, and that psychological treatment should take each of these into account.

Treatment begins with a careful assessment of the client’s issues. Within a few sessions a collaborative treatment plan is created with the most pressing issues being treated first. Improvement is tracked frequently. I use a variety of evidenced-based techniques from various theoretical orientations. This approach to treatment can accommodate a long-term therapeutic relationship, as well as shorter, goal-directed needs.

Psychological Evaluations

When individuals consider a psychological evaluation they usually have a question in mind that they would like to have answered, such as:

  • Since I’ve always struggled academically, do I have a learning disability?
  • Can I have ADHD as an adult?
  • People keep telling me I’m bipolar- Am I?
  • Do I have a diagnosis?
  • Do I qualify for Social Security due to emotional or psychological problems?
  • I feel anxious all the time, what can help?
  • I feel like my personality gets in the way of my success. Can I change?

To assist with obtaining the answers to these questions, a comprehensive evaluation may be necessary. Typically, such evaluations include a detailed clinical interview, collateral source reviews (such as medical records, treatment notes and interviews with others), ability and achievement testing, neurological screening, and personality assessment. The results of such interviews and testing produces reliable data from which a thorough understanding of each client is wrought. A report with recommendations is then generated within one week of all data being gathered, followed by a debriefing session at no extra cost.
