Seattle, Washington

Welcome

During a lifetime, many individuals will seek out professional help to deal with the issues and problems they face. Seattle is fortunate to have a vast array of qualified therapists, counselors, psychologists and psychiatrists at a person’s disposal should they need a helping hand. At Claritas Counseling and Evaluations, a single task, etc. is done well: comprehensive psychological evaluations. This is a no-nonsense site dedicated to keeping things simple, clear and practical.

I am guided by the simple truth that people deserve to be treated with integrity, respect and kindness. As a basis for every evaluation, this truth provides a safe place to go through the assessment process without fear or judgment. You’ll be provided with an atmosphere that both values you and is helpful in finding answers. My private practice is conducted at the Elliott Bay location of Mindful Therapy Group in Seattle, Washington. I contract with the group to provide a variety of administrative and support services that help my business run smoothly.

Who I serve

Psychological evaluations are offered to most individuals from ages 5 to 90. When individuals are referred for a psychological evaluation, or they have long-standing questions of their own, they usually have a referral question in mind that they would like to have answered, such as:

To assist with obtaining the answers to these questions, I use comprehensive clinical interviews, observer interviews, collateral resources and a variety of relevant testing protocols to find the answers. After the tests have been scored  and interpreted, a full report with helpful recommendations is written, usually within one week of all data being gathered.

Costs

I accept most insurances for payment. The amount covered depends on individual policy constraints, and whether a deductible is met. If the deductible is met, the cost for the evaluation is usually between $40 and $200. I do not accept Medicare or Medicaid plans for testing services, with or without supplemental plans.

For those without insurance, or who have an insurance plan I do not accept, the private pay cost for a psychological evaluation is $250/hr. A typical ADHD evaluation, for example, would involve 5-6 hours of face-to -face testing and collateral interviews. Roughly the same amount of time is needed to interpret the data and write the 12-15 page report. The 10-12 total hours would be $2500 to $3000.

Evaluations for learning disabilities usually involve fewer hours while those with more complex referral questions would demand more. The amount of time required is always discussed up front, so there are no surprises. After the report is written, a session to review the results and answer any questions is conducted.

About

Dr. Ben Dobbeck

Clinical Psychologist

I grew up in northern Ohio and was raised with two older siblings and a single parent. Watching my brother protest the war in Viet Nam and observing my favorite aunt irrationally cheer on the Cleveland Indians as they lost a billion games in the 60’s and 70’s gave way to a thought that would guide my professional career: Human behavior- What’s more interesting or fun than that?

I cut my clinical teeth as a therapist in psychiatric hospitals for both adults and adolescents in the 80’s and 90’s. After earning my master’s degree, I became a program director at a pair of residential facility for adolescents that treated kids with both substance and mental health problems. I earned my doctorate from George Fox University in 2000 and completed my internship at Nanitch Sahalie, a residential treatment center for Native American teens in Keizer
